SALE OF FRUIT
SHOP CLOSING HOURS
RESTRICTIONS IN FORCE
As from April 1, the closing hours of fruiterers are now subject to certain restrictions. .
In the city of Wellington and the town district of Johnsonville, such shops must close at 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week. These restrictions do not apply on the evening of the working day preceding each of the following holidays—Good Friday, Anzac Day, King's Birthday, and it is also provided that the provisions shall cease to operate on September 30.
The position is slightly different in the boroughs of Pctone and Lower Hutt. While the closing hour on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week is 8 p.m. as in Wellington, fruiterers in Petone and Lower Hutt are also required to close at 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday of each week and at the same hour on the evening of the working day preceding each of the following holidays: Good Friday, Anzac Day, King's Birthday. In these boroughs the foregoing closing hours apply until October 31.
Occupiers of shops who sell fruit or vegetables but whose principal business is the sale of other goods, should note that the sale of fruit and vegetables is prohibited in Wellington, Johnsonville, Petone, and Lower Hutt, during such time-as fruiterers are required to be closed.
