GOLFERS' FINE FIGURES
"DAILY MAIL" COMPETITION
LONDON, April 1,
Harry Vardon's 12-year-old record of 73 was beaten 17 times in the first round of the "Daily Mail's" £2000 professional golf tournament at Braxnshot, in which 100 leading players, survivors of over 500 who played in sectional qualifying rounds throughout the country, are - participating. The f course is only 6388 yards long, but the fairways are very narrow and are fringed with heather, gorse, and pine trees. Bogey for the course is 75.
The leaders are R. A. Whitcombe, B. Gadd, and J.Adams, 69; J. Busson, 70. Others include Percy Alliss, E. E. Whitcombe, and Davies, 71; Havers, C. A. Whitcombe and Padgham, 73; Lacey, 74; Perry and Cotton, 75; Mitchell, 76.
Three more rounds will be played. Tlie winner will receive £500, the biggest prize in the history of British golf.
