Bride-elect Entertained,

Miss Eileen Jollands was the guest of honour at a.very pleasant party given recently, by the Misses Peggie Price, Pat Dennehy, and Marjorie Cameron. Many charming gifts, all in tones of green (showing a commendable absence of superstition on the part of the organisers), were received by. the bride-elect with great pleasure. Some were useful and some beautiful, and others combined both qualities. Among the' guests were Mesdames E. Foster (Canada), J. Watson (Otago), Cliff Patrick, and Ray Wright, and Misses K. Cameron, 5.,: Fitzgerald, L. Grave, M. O'Neill (Christchurch), E. Savage, W. Tait, N. Spowart (Scotland), N. Fowler, M. Chilton, Z. Rowe, G. Organ, J. Harvey, P. Melrose, and J. Duncan. The party was held at the Hotel St. George,' where the decorations, as usual, were, appropriate, and delicious tea was served. B.S.A. Card Party. Th card tournament held last evening by the Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay, and Melrose Auxiliary Committee, W.R.S.A., at the headquarters in Bay Road, Kilbimie, was attended by 80 players. Mrs. H. Bacon and Miss R. Boyce were successful at bridge, and Mrs. V. McLeod and Mr. D. Patrick won the prizes for "500." Mrs. H. Q. Bruce- (president- of" the ladies' committee) presented the prizes and reminded the lady card players of ths ladies' afternoon to be held at the headquarters. Over £4 was raised at th "Bring and Buy" stall held during the previous card tournament. Various comforts were purchased and taken to the disabled soldiers in the Ewart Hospital, and a letter was received thanking the committee for its kindly thought; . Catholic Seamen's Institute. In the A.M.I.C. Rooms recently, a very enjoyable concert was held to entertain about 60 men from the various ships in port.. A feature was the very clever dancing by the pupils of Miss Hazel-Martin. Mr. Simmers of the Waimana sang some popular numbers, ■ and songs were also rendered by Mrs. Tracy and Teresa and Paul O'Sullivan. ' Mouth organ solos by Miss' Laird and bagpipe selections by Mr. Tarrant were very much appreciated. The accompanists were Mesdames Tillyard and O'Sullivan/ tuad Miss H. Martin. ■ : Studio Dance. A large and cheery number of guests assembled in Miss Marjorie ; Newport's Studio for the opening dance of the season. The studio presented a very gay appearance decorated with bright coloured streamers^ and softly-shaded lights. Miss Newport wore a charming frock of black frilled net with diamante trimming. Miss Newport's ballet, dressed in black velvet and white organdie, entertained with two good numbers, and Mr. J. Elake gave two eccentric tap items. Mr. J. Selkirk was M.C. Monte Carlos were won by Miss M. Jones and Mr. Wilson, and Miss V. Chote and Mr. G. Cooke. A dainty savoury supper was served, and ap enjoyable, evening was brought to a close with a streamer dance and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Pleasant Farewells. Numerous farewell parties have been given during recent weeks for Mrs. Yeoman, wife of Mr. W. P. Yeoman, retiring business manager of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society. The final event was a delightful afternoon party held- yesterday afternoon at the Hotel ".St." George, when ■ Mrs. Yeoman was entertained by a number of her friends. The. Palm Lounge was charmingly decorated witli bowls of gladioli and the tea tables with exquisite roses. The guest of honour, who wore a smart ensemble of cocoabrown relieved with beige and a wide hat of fine, brown straw, was presented with a bouquet of:■!.roses' and "pom pom" dahlias. She .was also the recipient of several'handsome gifts conveying the good wishes of all present. Mr. and Mrs. "Yeoman left last evening by the. Moriowai for Auckland, where they will stay for a few. days before sailing for Sydney. Among those present at the afternoon party were Mesdames J. McHattie, H. H. Wray, D. M. Todd, T., F. Walshe, H. Stringer, R. R. Scott, A. V. Fielder, G. Austad, E. F. Wray, E. Little, W. A. Fisher, and J. Austad (Christchurch)
