CRICKET
UPPER HUTT COLTS CLUB
The end-of-season function of the Upper Hutt Colts' Cricket Club was made a gala one for members and other enthusiasts. Through the courtesy of Mr. ,and-Mrs. E. Quinn, the function was held at the Maori Bank Tearooms, and there was a large attendance. The president of the club (Mr. A. Clark) r congratulated the captain and coach of the team (P. Irvine) on the wonderful way. he had brought his team along, expressing his pleasure at the position the club held in the league championship. Mr. Irvine had given his time "and services to the club, and he was now leaving on a trip to England. Tokens of esteem from himself. and members of the team were handed to Mr. Irvine by the president. In reply, Mr. Irvine expressed thanks for the gifts and said that whatever he had done for cricket in the district or for his team had been done because he liked the game. Members from other clubs spoke of the good work.of Mr. Irvine and wished him yon voyage and a safe return. Cheers were given for Mr. Irvine and also for Mr. and Mrs. Quinn.
Awards were made as follows: —Rose bowl for the most improved player, D. Smith; attendance prize, N. McGhie; best sport, J. Skerton; best fielding, R. Dunn; best bowling, D. Auckram.
