GAY DOLL'S SURPRISE
Gay Doll sprang a real surprise in the Nursery Handicap,, paying nearlydouble figures in a small field. Black Friar, however, carried nearly half the pool, and Mirth and Toorak were also well supported. It was the first win that Doll's rider, C. Goulsbro', had enjoyed for a considerable time. Gay Doll jumped out clear at the start and was always in front. At the distance she appeared to be weakening when Mirth and Toorak threw out challenges,-but as Mirth was drawing up to her she suddenly dashed away again and she won comfortably by a good half-length.^ : . . ■ -. • It was Gay Doll's second win, as she was also- successful at; Hastings .at the New Year, after which she/was ceased off7 till- she-reappeared ■recently- at Napier Park.
