COSMIC RAYS

DR. COMPTON'S RESEARCH

CHICAGO, March 30.

Dr. Compton, University of Chicago physicist, on his return from installing one of his cosmic ray meters in the motor liner Aorangi, announced that he had data showing even more clearly the variation in the intensity of cosmic rays caused by the earth's magnetic field than did his first conclusive experiments four years ago. The installation in the Aorangi is one of seven in widely-separated parts of the world, including Christchurch, New Zealand, and if all these show greater intensity of rays in • the Northern Hemisphere than in the Southern Hemisphere, Dr. Compton believes it will demonstrate positively the rotation of the earth's galaxy and the origin of cosmic rays in remote space or remote galaxies.
