WATER DISPLAY IN LAMBTON QUAY
At about 7 o'clock this morning the general' 'monotony and weekday ap' - pearahce of. Lambton ;Quay were distinctly relieved and brightened by a waterworks display :from the roadwayopposite the Justice Department building,l until, the turncock, a man with no appreciation; of;what: the' public wants to see,,arrived.in.rusli order and shut that section;'of < : the, main off. A fire,,hydrant top. gave out and atwoineh;jet- of water; with high pressure behind'it, shot straight up, well above the-tops- of nearby buildings, and broke into a spectacular plume. : Most of the water'fell back on.the roadway, flooding it for some distance, but what did fall on the- gabled front and roof of the.Justice Department offices was to much for the ordinary downpour arrangements and a fair, amount of water worked back into the building. The damage done was not serious,, though in some rooms ceilings and wallpapers were saturated and stained.
