IN DEFENCE OF DOCS
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I wonder if you would grant me a small space in your paper in defence of the dogs that are being talked of so much lately? ' Why blame the animals if they are always on the streets? It is the one to whom they belong who is at fault. Find the owners out. This can be done by the number of the collar, and if the dogs are unregistered they can be handed over to the dog-catcher. As regards the pavements being in a dirty state through these dogs, the council could surely put extra men on to help keep the city clean, as a big sum must be paid each year in dog tax, and all the dog lovers get out of the 10s is a collar worth, I suppose, not much more than Is 6d. Instead of worrying over this, make the public observe the "do not spit on the pavement" notices. If this were enforced our towns would be a lot cleaner.—l am, etc.,
A LOVER OF ANIMALS.
