PLEASANT EVENING

The Levin Women's Institute recently held its first meeting of the year in the Oddfellows' Hall. The president (Mrs. C. E. Thorpe), occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. As this was the first meeting since the death of the late King, the members, at the request of the president, stood in silence as a mark of respect to his memory.

After the routine business had been disposed of, Mrs. Waring-Taylor, a

member of the _ federation executive, gave a most ' instructive talk on "Annual Elections." She also capably demonstrated the making of seagrass, stools, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by acclamation. "Bring and buy" parcels ' were a most successful feature of the meeting, and the monthly competition for the best pot of apple jelly, resulted in Mrs. W. Ransom being awarded first prize and Mrs. Rees second.

A dainty supper was dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames Inder, Jones, Nye, and Rippon, and the singing of the National Anthem concluded a happily-spent evening.
