STORM DAMAGE

WAIRARAPA ESTIMATE

(Special to the "Evenina Post.") MASTERTON, This Day. According to a comprehensive report submitted to yesterday's meeting by the county clerk. (Mr. J. C. D. Mackley), damage to roads and bridges in the Masterton county by the recent storm is .estimated provisionally at £4730. Floods earlier in the financial year caused damage amounting to £3250, and in the course of his report Mr. Mackley laid full stress on the very serious inroads into the finances of the county occasioned by the heavy cost of repairing flood.damage. After considering the report by the county clerk and another by. the overseer, it was decided that any finance the council would be required to find for the repairing of roads should be provided out of revenue. The cost of reconstructing bridges which became a total loss as the result of the storm, however, is to be found by way of a special loan. Immediate application is to be made to the Government for financial assistance for the repairing of storm damage. . (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, This Day. The damage in the Pahiatua County from the recent storm is now estimated by the overseer at £1700, while the Akitio County engineer's survey makes a tally of £2100. A contractor working near Pongaroa had his plant damaged to the extent of £300 by flood waters.
