"A DISGRACE"
PALMERSTON POLICE STATION
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
"The place is a disgrace. It is in a terrible state and for a picturesque city like Palmerston North to continue to have a station like that does not reflect very creditably on Governments of the past." With these words, the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) condemned the city's police station yesterday, when replying to a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce.
It was explained that the building had been erected from 50 to 60 years ago, leaked in the roof, and was conducive neither to efficient working nor good health. ■ : ■■ ' ' The Minister said he would place a request for a new building before the Minister of Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason), adding that if he were that Minister the building would not remain there long.
