PRICES CURTAIL DEMAND.
The Bank of Australasia has received the following cable, dated January 31, from its London office:—Frozen lamb: Demand for new season's, New Zealand, at the beginning of the year considerably curtailed owing to the high prices, and although supplies were not very heavy slightly lower prices were accepted in order to stimulate trade. During the last fortnight there have been more inquiries and market continues steady. Australian lambs: There has been good demand owing to their comparatively lower prices. Frozen mutton: Wethers, demand slow; lightweights, supplies limited, however, and market steady; ewes and Australian mutton difficult to. sell at first, but there were more inquiries later and market improved with upward tendency. Frozen beef trade has been slow, but market now firmer, owing to limited supplies and better tone for chilled beef. y^
