MEETING OF CENTRE

DEWAR SHIELD CONTEST

A meeting of the Wellington Centre N.Z.A.A.A. was held last evening, Mr. A. C. Kitto presiding over a good attendance of delegates.

The secretary (Mr. R. Ewing) pointed out that the Featherston A.A. Club, which proposed to hold a sports meeting on February 8, was not affiliated or registered.- A letter had been sent the Wairarapa sub-centre pointing this out and asking for immediate compliance with the rules of N.Z.A.A.A.

A Dewar Shield contest is to be held at Petone Oval in conjunction with the Cycling Association on Saturday next at 2 p.m. The rules governing the walking races were amended so that entries from teams of two instead of three are now required. In the event of only one club entering it is to be allowed to enter A and B men, but only the A team is to count for Dewar Shield points. The rules as brought down by a subcommittee ■ pertaining to the Kitto Shield were adopted. The main alteration is in the matter of points allotted for the sections—dress, attendance, deportment, and marching. Any clubs without banners, emblems, or pennants are to be penalised five points. The appointment of a manager of the Wellington team to compete at the New Zealand championships at Dunedin and the delegates to the N.Z.A.A.A. conference was left over until the next meeting.

The president, Mr. A. C. Kitto, was appointed selector of the Wellington team for the New Zealand championships. It was resolved that in future firm action will be taken with regard to entries and that such be refused un>less accompanied by the extra entry fee. = All passes to delegates and officials are to be recalled and fresh ones issued. Anyone in possession of passes other than those now to be used are to be refused entry to grounds. Competitors must have the recognised official competitor's pass. , The meeting passed a vote of condolence with the late Cyril Flett's relatives and stood in silence for one minute. ______________
