FLO WEES AT MIRAMAR
EASTERN SUBURBS SHOW
; The Miramar. and Eastern- Suburbs Horticultural Society's gladioli show was Held in the Miramar South School on Saturday last. The attendance was good, and the society was gratified with the increased interest shown in all classes of the show.
Mr. Townson, chairman of the society, introduced Mr. E. Thornton, who, before officially declaring the show open, made feeling reference to the passing of our late Sovereign, King George V. Mr. Thornton commented on the glorious profusion of. blooms, and wished the society every success.
Mr. E. Tanner presented the trophies and prizes to the successful competitors. The judges were: Flower and vegetable section, Mr. A. Soanes, Christchurch; ■ decorative, Miss E. A. Beagley; children's classes, Mrs. S. Vickers.
The champion gladioli . in the open section was "Our Selection," exhibited by J. Flaus. That in the amateur, classes was a'Tted Lory" exhibited by P. F. Lister.
The following awards were made:—
Gladioli. —Open classes, for Soanes Cup (won outright) and British gladioli certificate and special trophy (miniature .cup): J. Flaus. 9 firsts and champion, 3 s'ecohds; J. Trevitick, 1 first, G seconds, 2 thirds.'
Gladioli (amateur), for Mr. Soanes's trophy and Griffiths trophy, won outright: Winner, P. IV Lister, 6 firsts and champion, 2 seconds, 3 thirds; H. Jones, 2 firsts, 3 seconds; W. H. White, 1 first, 1 second, 1 third; Mrs. L. J. Williams, 1 second, 1 third.
Gladioli (novice class), for Lister and Flaus trophy: H. E. Wheeler, 2 (lists, 1 second; D. Nicholls, 1 first; Mrs. L. J. Williams, 1 first; A. It. Harper, 2 seconds; 'Mrs. S. Vickers, 1 third.
Gladioli seedling: Mrs. I/. J. Williams. 2 firsts.
Begonias, Mr. Fox's trophy: D. T.. Maxwell, 2 firsts, 2 seconds!
. Sweet peas: A. It.-. Harper, 1 first; Mrs. D. Robertson, 1 second.
Roses: T. Lane, 1 first, 2 seconds, 1 lliiril H. Welch, 1 first.
Carnations, Mr. Soanes's trophy: 0. Henry. '1 firsts, 2 seconds, 1 third; C. Chapman, 2 seconds, 1/ third.
Carnations (novice), Mr. Townson's -trophy: A. Dean, 1 flrsf, 1 second; J. Crewes, 1 ilrst, 1 third.
