FAIR AND WARM

SUNDAY THE HOTTEST DAY

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Light to moderate northerly winds, freshening somewhat. Weather fair and warm.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon | today, is for rather variable winds, with northerlies predominating shortly in most districts. A change to southwesterlies again, however, will advance shortly over the South Island. The weather for the most part will be fair and warm, but scattered local rains jare probable in districts with a westerly aspect, and in the far south.

During Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning a very shallow depression crossed the Dominion. Although it produced very little effect on the weather, there was a change in most places to south-westerlies in the rear of it, and a few isolated rains fell, accompanied in places by thunder. Winds this morning over, the South Island were turning to the north again owing to the approach from the Tasman Sea of a slightly deeper depression, and a few showers :have been reported from western and far southern parts.

Auckland had fine weather on Saturday with a moderate north-easterly breeze, but in the evening there was a thunderstorm with heavy rain in parts of the city area. It was somewhat cooler yesterday with a south-westerly breeze, but was fine. Passing showers were reported this morning, however.

Wellington- had perfect summer weather during the weekend, and it was warm, clear, and sunny. On Saturday eleven hours of bright sunshine were recorded, yesterday's total being 11.7 hours. The maximum temperature reached 75 degrees yesterday, which is the highest so far recorded tliis summer. There has been but little wind, such as there was being from the north.

It was fine and clear in Christchurch on Saturday with a north-easterly breeze. The wind changed yesterday to a fresh south-westerly, but the weathere remained fine. During the after, noon the wind decreased, and since the evening a north-easterly has been blowing again. Early thjs morning skies were overcast, but by 9 a.m. there was an improvement.

It has been fine and warm in Dunedin also. Until Saturday night a north-easterly breeze prevailed, but the wind early on Sunday morning changed to the south-west, without, however, affecting the weather. Later in'the day yesterday the wind returned to the north-east and continued so until this morning, the weather still being sunny.
