ORIENTAL BAY
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —As a visitor to this charming suburb, I have one or two comments to make, and if I complain it is not with any other object in view but to suggest to the authorities where ■ improvements could be made in the public interest. I refer particularly to the lack of bathing facilities. Surely, Sir, in the interests of common decency, dressing sheds should be provided without a moment's delay. These, of course, should be up to date, with hot and cold showers and sanitary conveniences, and to be in charge of caretakers; a small charge could be made if necessary for the provision of towels, etc. That this small and popular beach is overcrowded, as was the case last Saturday is another point that needs immediate consideration. Some limitation should be placed on the numbers congregating on this small area. This could best be done by improving the bathing facilities in all adjacent areas. Of course, it will be said where is the money coming from to make the requirements of Oriental Bay up to date. For a city like Wellington it is a mere .bagatelle. —I am, etc., CIVIS.
