SELECTION CRITICISED

A correspondent J.N.M. writes as follows:—From the selection of All Blacks and our present cricket selection, it seems that more care should be exercised to obtain the best men for the respective positions. New Zealand is cutting a sorry figure as regards opening batsmen. Among proved openers playing in New Zealand at present are Dustin and Foley. Both have proved themselves in representative cricket. However, for some unaccountable reason, the local selector passed them over, and, of course, the New Zealand selectors must support the local selection. Five-eighths and opening batsmen do not grow on gooseberry trees.
