MELBOURNE CONFERENCE
SEAMEN'S REPRESENTATION
SYDNEY, January 17.
A special meeting of over 2000 seamen unanimously authorised Mr. J. Keenan to represent the - Seamen's Union at the conference of maritime unions convened by the- Australian Council of Trades Unions in Melbourne on Monday next. Mr. Keenan is to be accompanied by the secretary of the Sydney branch, Mr. C. Herbert; who told the meeting that if Mr. Keenan were not. recognised by the conference he would refuse to participate in its discussions.
Mr. Jacob Johnson, who is already in Melbourne, has presented his credentials \to the Australian Council of Trades Unions, which he claims will prove that he is still general secretary. The A.C.T.U. has invited the management committee of the Seamen's Union to the conference, but has not recognised the claims of the central strike committee to be represented. Mr. Herbert will represent the management committee.
