A CHRISTMAS PRESENT?

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Soon-, everyone will be untying Christmas parcels, unwrapping turkeys and geese, mincing; stuffing, laying in a store' of unwanted gastronomic delights, and generally getting ready to make a huge pile of waste material of all sorts ~to lie somewhere in the back' yard, crammed; as-much of it as will go, into the rubbish tins, v -Few people burn rubbish these days, ana it has to. be taken away-by the city rubbish men. , Every- year ■ there is a great outcry because the tins ~ remain' uncleared over the holiday period the' reason being that the -rubbish 'men, like other people,-have: Christmas, too. There are still people out of work. Would it not be a good idea if sufficient extra men couM be put on to prevent bulky reminders of Christmas feasts encumbering the back yards long after the merry meals are forgotten? Householders might look on this at the city's seasonal gift.—l am, etc., -

SMALL BACK YARD.
