wickets.
After several of the English batsmen had succumbed to the good bowling by Ebeling and Chilvers, Hardstaff and Langridge became associated in a productive partnership which altered the complexion of the innings. Hardstaff's century was made in 183 minutes and included nine boundaries. He batted for 247 minutes and hit 15 fours, giving only one very hard chance when he was 121. Practically all the runs were made in front of the wicket, his cover and straight drives being magnificent
Langridge, who was dropped before he scored, played a correct, steady innings. He batted 145 minutes. The bowling was accurate throughout the day, but the fielding of the Australians was atrocious, no fewer than seven easy catches being dropped. Barber was missed twice in one over from Chilvers.
