AUSTRALIAN PLANS
SELECTION OF AEROPLANE
CANBERRA, December 5.
The British Government has agreed to place the Discovery II at the disposal of the Commonwealth Government for the search for Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth. The offer is dependent on a practicable scheme being devised here for a rescue expedition. •
A conference of leading officers of the Air Force and civil aviation branch is being held immediately to determine the best type of aircraft to be shipped on the Discovery 11. It is intended to dispatch the vessel to the Bay of Whales, from which reconnaissance flights will be made to the point from which Ellsworth's last signals were heard.
As soon as details are arranged a message will be sent to the President of the United States notifying him of the intention to dispatch the expedition. The Discovery is expected to reach Melbourne on December 9.
