EASY FOR ROUND SCORE
' Round Score closed his hack career with an attractive victory in the Rongotea ■Hack Handicap, for which he was naturally a firm favourite, ■■though at a better price than might have been anticipated. This relative of Admiral Drake should not now be. troubled successfully to bridge the gap to' open class. The only thing ithat may be against him for a time is that he seems to require, strong riding, which he may not receive back among; the lower weights again. B. H. Morris, has been an ideal horseman for him. -Round-Score was. ridden another well-judged race by Morris, who was satisfied to follow the field till the last half-mile. Then he was somewhat lucky in getting up along the inner, for it enabled him to be third into the straight, from which point he always looked safe, though Morris had to keep riding him. Aussie Ra, who went mdiffcrentjy on the first day yet was very much better backed yesterday, improved as the betting indicated he might. Always in a handy position, he came through just behind the winner at the top of the : straight, but the topweight was of too solid' mettle for him and he.was beaten a couple of lengths.
Royal Papa was another to show improved form. After following Cloudy Bay to the home turn he. dashed to the.front, and though the.two topweights were too good for him he easily, held third money. Ingenuity, who ran disappointingly, made up ground at .the end. to be fourth, with Summerhill and Mustang next. Cloudy Bay's rider was up on-her heck while she was out forcing the pace, her saddle having slipped shortly after the start-"- ..-'■■ .■.. ' . .-• :
