Somebody gave Janies QiiigVey,ol Ardwick, Manchester, a "deadr/ceri" for the Linton Stakes at the Newmarket October Meeting. So when he drew 34s Ud from the Public Assistance Com. mittee for his wife and two children he added a penny to it-ana, put > 35s on his "dead cert." But the "cert* was beaten—by a horse named Ballywellbroke. At Manchester Quigley was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for neglecting his wife ani children. :
