MRS. C. V. HUDSON

The death occurred last night, after a short illness, of Mrs. Florence Hudson, wife of Mr. G. V. Hudson, "Hillview," Karori.

Before her marriage Mrs. Hudson was Miss Florence Gillon. She was born at Lake Waihola, Otago, on June 23, 1856, and was educated at . the Dunedin Girls' High School.

After teaching in Dunedin and Timaru, she was appointed in 1883 to the staff of the Wellington Girls' High Schol when it was first opened in Abel Smith Street. That position she.held until 1893, when she married Mr. G. V. Hudson. They established their home in what was then the backblocks of Karori.

In addition to giving valuable assistance to her husband in his scientific work, Mrs. Hudson took great pride in growing native plants, which were collected from all parts of New Zealand.

Mrs. Hudson is survived by her husband and daughter, Miss Stella Hudson, and by one brother, Dr. G. Gore Gillon, now in England, and one sister, Mrs. Wyihks, of Auckland. The late Mr. E. T. Gillon, for many years editor of the "Evening Post," was her brother.

The funeral took place this afternoon at Karori Cemetery. Mrs. Hudson was beloved by-all who knew her.
