TRAMS TO THE WEST

SYDNEY STREET LINE

GROUNDS FOR HIGH HOPE

Residents of Karori and Northland, whether or not well pleased with the general result of the elections, are— except those who form the "anti" section;—well pleased with one aspect o£ the result, for they believe that the long series of refusals from the Government to give the City Council permission to establish a shorter tram route to the western suburbs by carrying the tracks up Bqwen Street and through Museum and Sydney Streets or some slight variation of that route' is at an end, and that when next th 2 council makes application for an Order in Council it will receive favourable consideration.

"We're banking on this change of Government to give us a shorter ride home and save the council money,' 1 said a resident of the western suburbs todsy.

It is understood, also, that the application will be made in the very near future.
