NAPIER WOOL SALE
DEMAND MAINTAINED
FRENCH BUYERS ACTIVE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, This Day.
Values at the first Napier wool sale this morning showed an advance of fully 2d per lb on practically all classes offering when compared with the ruling rates at the first sale last season. Levels throughout were fully firm on Auckland, with a hardening tendency apparent at times.
France was the principal competitor, with Japan a close second. Bradford operators were quieter than at Auckland, and Germany did very little buying. A feature of today's sale, as at Auckland, was the strong demand for medium to coarse crossbreds, with piece wools also making good sales. Held-! over wool, which comprised 40 per j cent, of the catalogue, sold very well in comparison with last season, the finer classes of coastal hogget wools realising values in the vicinity of lid to Is.
Competition was strong throughout, with French buyers forcing the pace on practically all classes of wool.
When the sale was half completed this morning it was estimated that the average advance on values at the opening of the Napier sale last season was 2d to 2£d. The top price for southern coastal fine crossbred hogget wool at this stage was 13Jd on account of Waipari Station.
