WAIPA'S EXTRA DATE

NEWCOMERS AT TAKAPUNA

(Special from "Early Bird.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Emancipation, who was injured in the running of the Great" Northern Hurdles last June, is engaged on the second day of the Takapuna fixture on Monday. In his last race he had to be pulled up sharply to avoid two fallen horses and as a consequence received injuries that necessitated a good spell. The Waipa Racing Club, 'which has received an extra day's permit, is now endeavouring to arrange a satisfactory date to hold the meeting. All Saturdays are taken up in the province until the Great Northern Meeting, and it is probable that the first available date after the fixture, on June 13, will be selected. MTingacre was to have contested the Hack Plate at the Takapuna Meeting this afternoon, in which the class was very strong, but if he is started in the Cautley Hack, seven furlongs, on Monday, he will be better placed. This speedy hack failed to show up in his Te Bapa engagement, but he should be all the better for his outing there and at Cambridge, and should be able to give a .good account of himself on Monday. SCOTLAND'S NEXT RACE. Master Norvai was to be the stable representative in today's Alison Cup contest at Ellerslie, Scotland having been taken out at acceptance time. The latter, however, is engaged in both the sprint and the open mile on Monday, and whichever race he takes on he will have a good chance, for he is a very fit horse. He has won at a mile and is always a dangerous horse up to that distance. It is in his favour that he can handle any ground. On looks alone it would be difficult to find a more promising two-year-old than the Pukekohe colt Bon Star, an Australian-bred youngster running , in the colours of his owner-trainer, W. Townsend, who is at.present in Australia with. Silver Jubilee. Bon Star had.hisfirst race at Te Rapa, showing promise," arid he then was produced .again at'Pukekohe last week, but he did not fare so well, failing to begin 'telling "against'him. The-youngster is engaged next on Monday, and his effort will be of general interest, for he may be'gop'd later on if looks are not deceptive; ' He is by Bdnnement from ■Star Gerh. His near foreleg is not without but it may notampair his speed,. although .an such cases racing on hard tracks'may develop .the weakness.' s ■ '■:■: ; ■•■ ' ■ ■ . •■ :<■:< . •■ ■•' ■ Marjory Daw, the winner of the two-year-old event at Pukekohe, is not being asked to do too much and that was why she was not paid up for on the opening day of the Takapuna Meeting. She may make an appearance on Mon* day, however, and on her. latest form, allowing for improvement in the meantirrieishe1 should again be hard to beat, -especially- as the field, will ; not be strong.; In addition, the :placegetters the' first day, will be carrying a bit mqre-w.eightjthan they had this afternoon. .... JONATHAN'S CLASS. Jonathan is one of the best handicap horses produced in the Auckland Province for many years, and as he appears to be standing up to his preparation all right, he promises to make the weight-for-age events at Christmas more ■ than usually interesting, more particularly as the three-year-olds do not seem to be. above moderate^ standard. Jonathan was down to contest the' open sprint at Ellerslie .today, but his engagement on Monday is confined to the open mile, in which he will probably be more at home than in shorter races, when he has to be hustled along to keep a position. He is 'not without bright chances on Monday, even with a big field in opposition. ■'. There are several two-year-olds in work at Ellerslie, but only one was engaged in this afternoon's race. The local representation should be much stronger on Monday, for there are half-a-dozen fresh Ellerslie youngsters nominated. None of them has given evidence to dale of being out of the ordinary and so one will have to wait until Monday to see if the material engaged then is promising. There is every likelihood of a big field being engaged in the St. Andrew's Handicap at Ellerslie on Monday, the distance, one mile, apparently being popular with owners. Among the fresh horses expected to run are Tybalt, Gipsy Moth. Scotland. Namakia. Adalene, and Wait and See. Tybalt has been executing brilliant gallops at Ellerslie for the past week and so his efforts may result in his running well on Monday. Wait and See is another good prospect, but she lakes a long time to get warmed up in a race and the speedy ones in the St. Andrew's will see that no time is lost waiting for the sluggards. She may be more at home on the Avondale track.
