STATEMENT BY MR. FORBES
The figures referred to in the above message are at present being considered by the Meat Board, which is expected to advise the British Government shortly of its reply, according to a statement made today by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes). He added that the arrangements that were made for the current quarter were satisfactory, and that no difficulties concerning the regulation of supplies for the first quarter of the caming year were anticipated.
In view of the seasonal variations in the volume of meat .exports, the figr ures for the present quarter are not likely to be used as a base for assessing the quantities for the coming quarter. The only comparable period is the first quarter of the present year. The question of the long-term meat agreement cannot be determined until the Argentine agreement with the United Kingdom expires next year.
