• - ' It was an ideal summer's day, calm • ••and very hot, for the Levin Racing ;, Club's: Annual Meeting at Levin on .Saturday, and an excellent attendance was drawn to the fixture, including good Wellington patronage. The fields •- -were of only average class, but the -racing was interesting, though most • of the wins were fairl comfortably achieved. The course was as green as ;..in spring, and the track, which had :_--been recently mown, provided splen•'did going. With the long intervals '"I'the club was able always to keep the '•."events to schedule. '■*? . The betting, under the single^pool with barometer indicator, was "keen throughout the day, and the in- - vestments totalled £8723, compared ><■ rwith £7468 under the win-and-place ...system last year, an increase of £1255. •It was a very satisfactory day's racing 'for the club. • The Levin Handicap saw the im- - 'proved Gay Boy scoring a ready win 'from Slippery after being ridden a .fine race by B. H. Morris, who was .also seen to great advantage in win- . ning the Lake Hack Cup on the top- -: weight and facourite. Round Score.' ;, The J. R. McDonald Handicap went to the favourite Jubilee Song, with ' Slippery, who had won the race the ■''two previous years and was having his ; . second start for the day, the runner-..-up. Trentham stables won with Shy and Debut. Favourites were success-l.-.ful in five of the races.
