A NARROW MARGIN
The chief golfing event of the weekend waa the match between the "Wellington and Christchurch clubs for the Tuson Cup, which was played at Heretaunga on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Christchurch by one game. The links were in splendid order. The results are as follows, the Wellington player being mentioned first in each instance:— FOURSOMES. A. D. S. Duncan and D. C. Collins "beat C. J. Ward and A. R. Blank, 2 and 1. D. O. Whyte and S. M. Watson beat E. J. Pumphrey and E. M. Macfarlane, 1 up. •P. G. Whitcombe and J. B. Parker and C. A. Seymour and H. W. Macfarlane, all square. P. W. Blundell and J. C. Peacock and L. A. Dougall and D. H. Butcher, all square. SINGLES. A. D. S. Duncan lost to C. J. Ward, 4 and 3. D. C. Collins beat A. K. Blank, 4 and 3. D. O. Whyte lost to E. J. Pumphrey, 4 and 3. S. M. Watson lost to E. M. MacfarTane, 2 and 1. P. G. Whitcombe lost to C. A. Seymour, 5 and 3. P. W. Blundell lost to L. A. Dougall, 1 up. J. C. Peacock beat D. H. Butcher, 5 and 3. J. B. Parker and H. W. Macfarlane, all square. WARD DEFEATS DUNCAN. C. J. Ward was in splendid form in defeating A. D. S. Duncan 4 and 3 in the singles. Both hooked their drives from the first tee, but Duncan's was worse, his ball landing well out of bounds, and Ward took the hole 4 to 5. The next was halved in 4's, but Ward took the third in 3 to 4 to stand two up. The next four were halved.
Both drove well at the eighth, but Duncan missed a four-foot putt for a half. They halved the ninth in 4's, and the Christchurch man turned three up. They halved the tenth, where neither chipped well, and Ward took the eleventh, where Duncan struck the bunker to the left of the green, in 4 to 5. Ward struck the rough to the left with his tee shot at the next. Duncan was just short of the green for 2, a beautiful shot against the wind, and he took the hole 4to 5. Ward got one back at the thirteenth, where Duncan hooked his second in to the rough. The Wellington man was in the bunker to the left of the green at the short fourteenth. They halved the next two in 3, this giving Ward the match 4 and . They finished out the round. .Ward took 37 out and returned in 35. Duncan took 77, 40 put and 37 in. D. C. Collins was 5 up at the turn in his match with A. R. Blank, going out in 36. Blank was erratic off the tees. J. C. Peacock was too steady for D. H. Butcher, and played a good round to beat his opponent 5 and 3. VETERANS' MATCH. In the veterans' match, Wellington beat the yisitors by seven games to five, winning the fourballs by three games to one. Each side won four games in the singles. The results are as follows, the Wellington players being mentioned first in each instance:— K. D. Duncan and G. Magnus beat H. Godby and Sir Cyril Ward, 3 and 1. G. O. Sutton and W. Kirkby beat G. Louisson and N. S. Williams, 1 up. W. A. Kiely and Sir A. Roberts beat W. T. D. Harman and W. B. Purchase, 4 and 3. R. W. Hollis and S. Blackley lost to L. Treleaven and J. O. Jameson, 1 down. SINGLES. K. D. Duncan lost to M. H. Godby, 2 and 1. G. Magnus lost to Sir Cyril Ward, 3 and 1. W. Kiely beat W. T. D. Harman, 2 and 1.
Sir Alexander Roberts beat W. B. Purchase, 3 and 2.
G. O. Sutton lost to M. G. Louisson, 7 and 6.
W. Kirkby lost to N. S. Williams, 3 and 2.
R. W. Hollis beat L. Treleaven, 2 up. C. J. Reakes beat J. O. Jameson, 6 and 5.
