"A PEEPING TOM"
THREE MONTHS' GAOL
"This man is what is known as a Peeping Tom," remarked Senior-Ser-geant J. Dempsey, when Bernard Victor Cottier, a labourer, aged 41, . appeared in the Magistrate's Court today charged with being found on enclosed premises without lawful excuse.
Cottier, who pleaded guilty, said his trouble was due to a very bad breakdown in health,, and asked that he should be' given probation. . "Yours is riot a case where probation would, be of any use," said Mr. W. F. 'Stnwell,S;Sl.; in. sentencing Cottier to; three months' "imprisonment. "You have a list.dating.back to 1929 in respect to offences- of. this particular nature." '.'.';.'" ... ' . •
The Senior-Sergeant described how a man had been lying in bed listening to the radio just ..after 1 o'clock this morning, when .a constable saw the accused standing oii.the front verandah of the house, aria peeping through a gap in the blind. The constable watched, him. for. a, while, and then accosted him: Cottier;first of all said that he had just left his room, but later admitted that he did not know the people in the house. ,
