FLARES FROM ISLAND

REPORT BY STEAMER

KINGSFORD SMITH SEARCH

SINGAPORE, November 22. A wireless message received from the captain of the steamer Pasha states that at 8.20 p.m. yesterday he saw flares on Sayer Island, on the west coast of Siam, but was unable to reach the island owing to a strong oiT-shore' wind. j A Qantas aeroplane is proceeding to Sayer Island to search. There is a slender chance that it may be Sir Charles Kingsford Smith.
