AUBURN LAD V. CYCLIST

The Victorian champion pacer Auburn Lad, who showed signs of returning to form last month, when he was three times placed in a shade better than 2min llsec for a mile, won a match race last week against Joe Parmley, one of the Victorian crack cyclists, at Olympic Park, Melbourne. The track was slow, but, in spite of this and the fact that it was his first intro-' duction to night-racing, Auburn Lad won comfortably in 2min 19sec.

On two occasions Auburn Lad attempted to jump white lines on the track and was very fortunate that he did not come down. His defeat of the cyclist marked his second success of the day. In the afternoon he won the Show Handicap at Warrnambool, and afterwards he jpurneyed 166 miles by train to keep the engagement with Parmley.
