PENWOMEN'S CIRCLE
The Penwomen's Circle of the Lyceum Club held its final meeting for the year recently, when the opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mrs. Sample, who is leaving for Australia shortly for a lengthy holiday.
Mrs. Sample was the recipient of several gifts by members who wished her bon voyage and a happy holiday. Mrs. J. C. Andersen, leader of the circle, presented her witli a book by a New Zealand author, in honour of her winning the recent competition for verses of welcome and farewell; the verses to be used by ihe club as occasion demands. The book was suitably inscribed and signed by club members. Mrs. llardy's token of esteem was the recently-published book of verse by Gloria P.awlinson.
Mrs. J. C. Andersen ;ilso presented Mrs. W. Bailey, secretary of fhe Circle, with a book, inscribed and signed, as a mark of appreciation for her untiring efforts in the interests of the penwomen. Afternoon tea was served.
Prizes were donated by Miss Kane, Mrs. Tamblyn, Mrs. Piper, Mrs. Butler, Mrs; Mack, Miss Shaw, and by an anonymous • donor. The prizewinners were:—Needlework, Mrs. Cummings; bags, Miss Jourdain; knitting, Mrs. Haines; pewter, Miss Boyd and Mrs. Kemble-Welch; brass, Mrs. Pope and Mrs. Hay-McKenzie; parchment-paint-ing, Mrs. Fink; and collection of work showing most variety and originality, Mrs. McDonald.
