Special forecast for Wellington:— Fresh to strong southerly winds. Weather cool and cloudy, and

occasional light showersl likely.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at' noon today, is for moderate to strong southerly winds to the north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura. Light to moderate and variable winds, with northerlies prevailing, may be ex|pected elsewhere. The weather will be changeable in northern and East Coast parts of the North Island, with scattered showers, also in the far south, but elsewhere it will be mainly fair, although clouding over later in the western districts of the South Island.

The depression persisting to the north-east has intensified somewhat, i-while an anticyclone extends from the Tasman Sea across the South Island. Hence winds have continued to blow from the south and have been fresh in places to the north of Westport and Kaikoura. Thence southward moderate northerlies have prevailed. Some scattered light rain has fallen between Castlepoint and East Cape, but otherwise the weather has been mostly fair to fine, although .with a considerable amount of cloud in eastern areas. Fogs were reported this morning on parts of the East Coast of the South Island.

Auckland has had fine weather, with a moderate southerly ' wind, similar conditions prevailing this morning.

Wellington's weather yesterday was fine and warm with 12 hours of bright sunshine. Winds were light and variable, but early today were freshening from the south.

Christchurch had a dull day, the morning being cloudy. A strong wind from the north-east has continued to blow.

Yesterday morning was dull in Duncdin, but the afternoon was sunny. A light northerly wind prevailed. At 9 a.m. today it was cloudy and foggy.
