CAMPAIGN NOTES
NOT TO BE DRAWN
In spite of the persistence of one questioner at his meeting at Khandallah last night, Mr. W. Appleton, Independent candidate for Otaki, refused to be drawn into an argument that has been taking up a good deal of space in the newspapers lately.
"Give us your opinion about Mr. Hislop's charges against the Government in connection with the public accounts and (lie Auditor-General's report," suggested the questioner. My. Appleton: I have riot studied that angle of it. I have not had time to go into it. I have read a great deal about both sides, but I could not
express an opinion without going thoroughly into it.
The questioner: Mr. Hislop practically charged the Gpvernment with malpractice and misappropriation. Mr. Appleton: I cannpt volunteer any opinion. I am not supporting Mr. Hislop. ■',"'"
The questioner: In the event of the charges being proved, what would be your attitude if Labour moved to put the Government out?
Mr. Appleton: If those charges were true, I would vote to defeat the Gpvr ernment. I would not care who moved it.
