A GOOD MEETING
MRS. CILMER'S CAMPAIGN
Men and women packed the Sydney Street schoolroom to the doors last night to hear Mrs. Knox Gilmer, Independent candidate for Wellington North. Between four and five hundred were present. There were few interjections, and those there were Mrs. Gilmer thrived on. At the conclusion of her address, and after the candidate had answered a number of questions, a motion of thanks and confidence in her, proposed by Mr. E. E. Gillon and seconded by TVIr. H. Lloyd, was carried, though there were some who voiced their dissent. The chairman was Major A. de B. Brandon.
Mrs. Gilmer outlined the main points in her platform, which she said she knew was a good one and from which she said she would not deviate. She declared that there was a need for women to have a voice in Parliament. After quoting from "The Post" as to the qualifications required in a candidate, Mrs. Gilmer contended that she possessed the qualifications enumerated and expressed the opinion that the person and not the party would count on polling day.
