"Although France does not intend to increase her arms expenditure at present, I consider that in view of the German armaments the Government might well be asked for a further £13,000,000 for national defence," declared the Budget Reporter, Dr. Archimbaud, addressing a committee of the Chambers of. Finance.
Germany, he said, had 800,000 men under arms and would shortly have a million, whereas the strength of ' the French army ready to meet a German attack was only 338,000.- i
