NEW SIRE FOR ELDERSLIE

The Elderslie Stud has purchased the English colt Solicitor General, a son of Blandford from a mare traciag to a sister to Cicero. As a three-year-old Solicitor General started seven times. After an unplaced performance he was beaten a short head in the Tudor Stakes. 1 mile, by Caithness. Then came a second in the Davis Stakes, li miles, and a second in the Durham Plate. 1 mile. He then won three on end in his final starts for the season.' He won the Clarence Stakes, 1J miles, the Newport Plate, 1J miles, and the Hotham Plate,' li miles, with 9.4 when starting an odds-on favourite. He afterwards went amiss, and the Elderslie Stud Company's representative in England succeeded in securing the colt for stud purposes.

Solicitor General, who has now been secured by the Elderslie Stud, was at an earlier date on offer to another New Zealand stud, but the price then asked was considered too high. The description forwarded about him at the time was that he was a very good-looking horse, just over 16 hands and sound, with a good front, deep middle piece, big quarters, and plenty of bone. He is a bay by Blandford from Dail, by Land League from Discourse, by Beppo; and he is an own brother to Statesman, who ran third for Mr. V. Emanuel in the 1933 Derby won by Hyperion, and later won the Duke of York Handicap and other good races.
