YACHTING
RACES AT PLIMMERTON The Plimmerton Boating Club held a points race for the Dalliston Shield on Saturday for all classes of boats. The course set was from the boathouse to Bar Bay and back, twice round With a strong southerly wind blowing it was a heavy beat to Bar Bay, and a spinnaker run back to the clubhouse. The boats, for the first time, were started on their handicaps, and left the starting buoy in the following order:— Corsair (9m 555). Wairoa (7m 10s), Watti (3m 255), Torment (3m 15s), Romona (2m 15s). Wellesley II'(lm 355). Huia (lm 15s), Kia Ora (scr), Clyde (scr). At the end of the first round the Watti led the Torment, Ramona, Clyde, Kia Ora,' Huia, Corsair, Wairoa, and Wellesley 11. After another beat to Bar Bay and a spinnaker run for home the race resulted as follows:— Clyde, 5h lm Os .. 1 Huia. 5h lm 28s 2 Watti, 5h 2m 0s 3 Torment, 5h 3m, 4: Ramona, 5h 5m Op. 5: Wairoa, oh 6m, 6; Corsair, 5h 9m 555. 7. Wellesley II started 4min late, and having a slight mishap -when sailing well, had to retire. All the boats were sailing well, with the Huia showing a lot more pace than in former races, and she should keep the other big boats moving for the rest of the season. Kia Ora finished fhird in 5h lm 425, but was disqualified for fouling a buoy. " I The race for the Takapuna class was the first of a series for the Fabling Cup, while the first-class and the Tauranga races were lor points. The first race for the Barron and Porirua Cups is to be held at Paremata next Saturday.
