LEPERS AT MAKOGAf
(To tho Editor.)
Sir,—On behalf of the Lepers at Makogai we wish to thank most sincerely all the kind donors for their very generous gifts so kindly donated this year. At the same time we would like to emphasise our very great appreciation to your paper for granting so much publicity to this appeal. We fully realise that without your hearty co-operation very little indeed could be done. We also wish to thank 3YA and 3ZM broadcasting stations for their generous assistance. Up to date we have received £402 in cash and about 25 cases of goods. This appeal is closing today, and for about a week thereafter we shall be busily engaged in packing up the goods and shipping them to their destination. Any further subscriptions received after November 16 will be used in purchasing goods to be. sent forward by a later steamer. We are communicating with Dr. C. J. Austin, the Medical Superintendent in charge of the Lepers at Makogai, as to what gifts he would like to have purchased with the money, having regard to their suitability and probable appreciation by his patients. In a few days' time we hope to publish the total amount received and acknowledgment of same. In conclusion, we wish to thank most sincerely the directors and the manager, Mr. W. E. Rodgers, of the Christchurch Gas Company, for the very great service rendered in this appeal from its inception, first through the instrumentality of the late Mr1. Ben C. Pratt, and now in the hands of his successor.—We are, etc., T. FLETCHER TELFORD, M.D., P. J. TWOMEY, Co-trustees.
