SYDNEY, November 10.
When a mail train ran down a motorlorry at a level-crossing eleven miles from Coonabarabran ' on* Saturday afternoon six occupants of the lorry were killed and five others . injured, some of whom are not expected to live. Some bodies were so mutilated that they were hardly recognisable.
The dead are James Birchell, 40 years of age, a contractor; George Muller, aged 23/ a labourer; Michael Harper, aged 30, a labourer; Edward Forrest, aged 60, a labourer; i Colin Chapman, aged 7, and his baby brother aged five weeks.
The injures are' Athol Wilkinson, aged 19; Roy Birchell, aged 35; Bernie Birchell, aged 22; Fred Muller, aged 25; Mrs. Tresnell, aged 57, grandmother of the dead children, who is suffering from injuries to her back and severe shock; her condition is critical.
All the victims were residents of the Coonabarabran district, which is 319 miles north-west of Sydney..
Mrs. Tresnell was taking the two children to hospital to see ■' their mother, who was a patient.
The accident ■ was due to the lorry driver, James Bifchell, 'being unable to see the train, which was obscured by a dangerous siding.
