BERT SHAW MEMORIAL
Petone crews were prevented from racing .on Saturday by the southerly weather, but heats for the Bert Shaw Memorial Trophy were raced by the Wellington Rowing Club, and the finals of the junior four by the Star Club The water was ideal on the sheltered side of the harbour.
In the first heat of the Bert Shaw contest of the Wellington Club, Paterson (str), Thornton (3), Tester (2) and Crafts (1) beat Luke's crew and R. McNair's crew, coming in a length and a half ahead. In the second heat Nicholson (str), Mclvor, A. Anderson and Butler beat Lodan's crew and Spoors crew, also by 1-J lengths. Nicholson's- crew beat Paterson's in the final by a length and half a canvas. The winners had the race in hand from Clyde Quay. Paterson's crew lost their timing just before the nnisn. The time taken by the winners to complete the mile course was 6min 40sec.
The final of the junior fours of the Star Club resulted in Samson's crew beating Hall's by two lengths, after a very fair race. The crews were: Samson (str), Hawker (3), Mack (2), Caselburg (bow), and Hall (str), Bevan (3), Hughes (2), Anderson (bow).
