N.Z. EX LIBRIS SOCIETY

An informal meeting of members of the New Zealand Ex Libris Society was held last evening in the Turnbull Library. The president, Mr. Johannes. C. Andersen, displayed and explained several new bookplates that had been added to the society's collection, among them being one belonging to Mr. E. B. Millton, of Birchwood Station, Canterbury, which, with a design including cabbage trees and pigeons, was typical of New Zealand. Much interest was taken by those present in several old illuminated Bibles and other rare volumes brought for the occasion by the Rev. D. Calder, general secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Mr A. R. McElwain outlined the proposals relating to the Ex Libris Society's participation in New Zealand Authors' Week. Displays of bookplates will be included in the exhibitions to be held in the four centres during the week. The society's brochure is to be included in the special souvenir publication which will be issued in connection with the movemen*'
