CAMPAIGN NOTES
VESTED INTERESTS
"Supposing the Labour Party got into power, what good could you do in Parliament" was' a question put to Mr. E. W. Nicolaus, Commonwealth Land Party candidate for Wellington East, at Kilbirnie last evening.
"If the Labour Party got into power, it would not last four "months," re-< plied the candidate. "It would do either of two things. It would bring in some stupid Socialistic legislation, which, would mess things up, and others would combine to put them out; but I think it would be sedate and orthodox, and keep its £1000 a. year on the Treasury benches. I would be the drily man in Parliament who would keep battering and battering away at the vested interests, and when I made a bold stand I would get others round me. I could keep things moving up there as they have never moved before."
A voice: You would educate them? Mr. Nicolaus: No; I would leave that to public opinion. .
