TEACHING OF ART

BURSARIES FOR TRAINEES

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

NEW PLYMOUTH, November 5.

The Minister of Education (the Hon. S. G. Smith) announced that he has approved of the institution of bursaries in fine arts for the purpose of training specially-selected students to be teachers of art s-übjects in technical schools. Two bursaries, which will include provision for a boarding allowance where necessary, are to be awarded annually, tenable at the Canterbury University College School of Art, for a total possible period of four years. It will, probably be a condition of the award that the applicants shall have passed the preliminary examination for the New Zealand University's diploma in fine arts. February 1 is proposed as the closing date for the receipt of applications.
