The South Australian Derby winner Beamish Lad, whose dam is a New Zealand mare, was another who was apparently outclassed in Saturday's Derby. Epigram appears to have gone a fairly sound race in the Cantala fatakes. but was just not quite up to the class. A. D. Webster's two-year-old Martinborough made no showing in the ]uvenile classic.
