CITY LIBRAEY NEEDED
POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH
The incorporation of the present Christchurch Public Library in a new library was suggested by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, in an interview m Christchurch, reports the "Press."
Mr. Forbes suggested that in making adequate provision for municipal library provisions Christchurch w£& lagging behind other cities. A municipal library was a need in any city. As the new library would be a municipal institution, it would be the responsibility of the City Council to draft a proposal about the change-over for submission to the Canterbury College Council. The proposal would have to satisfy the College Council that the library endowments would be put to their proper use, and that the library generally would be conducted on improved lines. Such a move would bring the city many advantages under the national library system. Christchurch ought to have a library in keeping with its dignity and importance, Mr. Forbes said, but it was for i Christchurch to take the initiative, and he hoped the first move would not be delayed.
