GIRL GUIDES

WELLINGTON AFFAIRS

The Dominion president (Lady Galway) attended the annual meeting of the Girl Guides' Association (Wellington Province) yesterday. The president, Miss Enid Bell, in welcoming Lady Galway, expressed appreciation of the work already done by her Excellency in furthering the movement.' Her encouragement had been of the greatest assistance, especially in outlying areas* where Guides were practically isolated. . Replying, her Excellency said that although this was her first visit to the association as Dominion president, she had recently paid a visit to the Guiders' training camp at Masterton, a visit which she had thoroughly enjoyed. Her interest in., the movement, she said, was personal as well' as official, for she had been concerned': with [Guiding at Home. From her experiI ence, she thought it quite sate to' say that Guiding and Scouting; did mo v re i than any other movement; for they , exerted a powerful influence for good on young people.' ; . . Her Excellency said that she would , always be delighted to assist the move- [ ineht in any way she could. r' The Chief Commissioner, Miss Ruth I Herrick, referring to the qecentralisatioh scheme recently put into effect 1 throughout the province, congratulated I the association on the courage with which they had entered upon the reorganisation. She was not in favour of the annual rally, but the Dominion centre had to have a shop and office, and overhead charges were, of necessity, high.
