OTAKI SEAT
MR. iAPPLETON'S CAMPAIGN
The campaign of the' Independent candidate for Otaki, Mr. W. Appleton, was continued at Porirua last evening Mr. E. Windley presided. ■ The vigorous development of suitable secondary industries as a corrective of the unemployment difficulty was urged by Mr. Appleton, who said that the day when New Zealand might be regarded as one great farm had gone. The time had come for a well-balariced economy. This implied not only, a change of thought on the part of the people, but a change in the personnel of Parliament as well, so that the. new economy could be put into operation. Leading farmers themselves, realised that the j time was ripe for the development of j policies along broader lines.- That was why the !public was insisting that men should be returned to Parliament who had a wide general business and administrative experience.
A motion of thanks, confidence, and support was carried.
